Description of problem:

Windows 10 Installer stuck at "Getting files ready for installation" when using vioscsi driver in virtio-win-0.1.112-1 and 0.1.113-1

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
ISO 0.1.112-1 and 0.1.113-1

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Windows 10 with Virtio SCSI for disk drive and IDE/SATA for Windows and virtio-win ISO
2. Process to "Installing Windows" screen

Actual results:
Stuck at "Getting files ready for installation" step. You can still move the mouse around and click close the installer but It will just stay there.

Expected results:
Finish installation and auto reboot

Additional info:
Build 110 and 102 (stable) is working
Change disk drive to SATA/Virtio is working
I'm using 4.4.6-200.fc22.x86_64 with Virtualization Preview Repository

Hi Vadim,

I think it is a duplicate bug of bug1308945,
link is https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1308945

our guest OS iso is "en_windows_10_enterprise_x64_dvd_6851151.iso"
*Not* "Win10_1511_1_English_x64.iso". It seems that win10 home hit some issue when installing, bug pro and enterprise not.

QE also tried to reproduce on *RHEL7* Host (kernel-tools-3.10.0-361.el7.x86_64,qemu-kvm-rhev-2.5.0-1.el7.x86_64,ISO 0.1.112)

Steps:

1 boot w/ Virtio SCSI for data disk drive, IDE/SATA for Windows system disk and virtio-win ISO

2 Install win10-64

Actual result:
Install guest OS *successfully*

Note:
We did not use 4.4.6-200.fc22.x86_64 with Virtualization Preview Repository

Thanks
wyu

More info of the iso

The iso is the new windows 10 MSDN iso
And I tried to install Windows 10 Pro not Home. but I just test Home and get the same issue

Searching the vfio-users mailing list and that find some people also have problems using virtio-scsi driver of virtio-win bulid 112, 113 with Windows 10.

Thanks a lot.
Can reproduce it on my system (qemu 2.5.50 kernel 3.18.7-100.fc20.x86_64).
Vadim.

Comment 11 Vadim Rozenfeld 2016-04-10 14:06:03 UTC
should be fixed in build 117 http://download.eng.bos.redhat.com/brewroot/packages/virtio-win-prewhql/0.1/117/win/virtio-win-prewhql-0.1.zip

btw, the problem is only reproducible on SMP configuration with one processing queue enabled (non multi-queue operation mode)

Comment 12 hlmasterchief93 2016-04-15 20:27:39 UTC
I confirm build 117 working on my system

and my system is also as your description (intel 5520 chipset)
when add <driver queues='4'/>, it is working with build 113
