Description Pratik Pravin Bandarkar 2016-04-06 12:10:03 UTC
Description of problem:
The used Dell Poweredge r730xd Servers have the following hdd config:
Hardware Raidcontroller (Perc H730) with 12 installed HDD's.

First 2 hdd's are mirrored as a Hardware Raid.

The 10 additional disks are also connected to the same Controller as non-raid disks and sofore visible to the OS as Independent disks.

Problem I have now is:
The bootdrive (mirror) is shown as disk /dev/sdk instead of /dev/sda

Drives /dev/sda-sdj are not bootable (through BIOS)

Is it possible to "tell" through the ceph storage heat template to not install onto /dev/sda but onto disk /dev/disk/by-??? Or is there any other / better way?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RHOS7

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Actual results:
unable to specify root/boot disk other than sda

Expected results:
While installing ceph nodes, specify root/boot disk other than sda.

Comment 3 Mike Burns 2016-04-07 21:36:02 UTC
This bug did not make the OSP 8.0 release. It is being deferred to OSP 10.

It seems to be settable, people will comment with more details.
if this is not documenting, this will in doc.

Thanks!

It should be possible to chose a particular device for boot setting a property for the ironic node, see [1]
