Description of problem: PPTP VPN connection frequently drops out (every minute or so). Rare for the connection to stay up for more than a couple of minutes when in use. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): pptp-1.8.0-6.fc22.x86_64 NetworkManager-pptp-1.1.0-1.20150428git695d4f2.fc22.x86_64 NetworkManager-pptp-gnome-1.1.0-1.20150428git695d4f2.fc22.x86_64 How reproducible: Happens whenever I use this VPN connection. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Add a PPTP VPN connection in network manager. 2. Connect to the VPN. 3. Observe the connection drop out after some seconds/minutes with a message along the lines of "VPN connection failed for an unknown reason". Expected results: VPN connection should not drop out all the time. Additional info: Disabling BSD/Deflate/TCP header compression doesn't seem to help much, if at all. (Cf. https://askubuntu.com/questions/144456/pptp-connection-disconnect ) Doing 'sudo modprobe ip_gre' doesn't seem to help. (Cf. http://pptpclient.sourceforge.net/howto-diagnosis.phtml ( This problem does not occur when connecting to the VPN from Windows 7. The impact of this problem is quite severe.

It then takes a variable amount of time to reconnect, roughly 1-2 minutes.
Could you try without networkmanager and provide logs (e.g. with --loglevel 2)?
I'm not really sure how to do it without networkmanager. You especially need port 1723 open on both server/client and enabled pass through for the protocol 47 (i.e. GRE protocol, NOT port 47). And all devices - routers, wifi APs need to correctly pass through the protocol 47.
