Created attachment 1148076 [details] last upgrade before issue surfaced Description of problem: The dual display extended desktop setup reverts to a non-extended desktop (both display the same) with incorrect resolutions after a log-out and log-in. So the dual display setup is not persistent between log-ins. My setup has been working for months. I ran 'dnf upgrade' on Friday (see list of updates in file: 2016-04-15-dnf-upgrade-history.txt). After one login, I had a Kcrash reported on kf5-kinit and kactivitymanagerd. There is a bug report Bug #1327785. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): kdeplasma 5.5.5.2 kf5 5.21 qt 5.6.0 See attached file for last upgrade history How reproducible: Every login Steps to Reproduce: To test the situation, I started with only one monitor connected, at the correct resolution. I powered down the system and connected the second display. I booted the system, logged in and setup the two display extended desktop with the System Settings - Display and Monitor screen. I then made a copy of the .xsession-errors file (labeled: .xsession-errors_1_Dual_Display_setup_working_before_logout). I logged-out, waited a bit and logged-in. The dual display setup reverted back to the same display on both screens. I copied the .xsession-errors file again (labelled: .xsession-errors_2_After_re-log-in_dual_display_setup_not_persistent). I then reconfigured the dual display, extended desktop setup I had before the log-out. I again made a copy of the .xsession-errors file (labelled: .xsession-errors_3_After_re-log-in_and_reconfigured_dual_display). Actual results: Dual display setup does not persist Expected results: Dual screen setup will persist between log-out and log-in Additional info: I don't know what other info is needed to identify the source of the problem.

Update - after having logged out/in to the same user dozens of times, now the extended desktop dual display is persistent between sessions. I didn't add/change/update any software on my system so I don't know why it works now or if it will continue to work correctly. I did log-in to another users account on the same system which I had not touched since before this issue showed. When I logged in to this other user account, it configured the dual display setup correctly. So I will update further if the situation goes bad again.
Further Update - The dual display persistence problem has reappeared. I do not see any pattern on when it will work and when it won't.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '23'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 23 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 23 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2016-12-20. Fedora 23 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
