Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

The documentation is incorrect for RHEL 7.1 and 7.2 on IBM Power Systems (ppc architecture). The documentation is incorrect for both Big and Little Endian.

Hi Ashlee and Christian,
We have re-written the section, so that it now describes the correct boot loader, and when the update has been verified to be accurate, and any necessary edits have been made, we will republish the guide so that the changes are visible as soon as possible.

All the very best,
Clayton

I just looked at RHEL 7 "Chapter 10. Booting the Installation on IBM Power Systems" (at https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/Installation_Guide/chap-booting-installer-ppc.html) which says, "Installation media use the yaboot bootloader to start IBM Power Systems servers. When the installation process is complete the server will boot using GRUB2 (GRand Unified Bootloader version 2)." But my experience is that a grub prompt is presented when RHEL 7 first booted.

I see that RHEL 7 Beta "Chapter 10. Booting the Installation on IBM Power Systems" (at https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7-Beta/html/Installation_Guide/chap-booting-installer-ppc.html) which has been updated to show the correct boot prompt, but it does not mention that the prompt is from grub, not yaboot. Not a big deal, but it would seem worth mentioning explicitly that grub is the bootloader.

What is the date by which https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/Installation_Guide/chap-booting-installer-ppc.html will be updated with the new version in the RHEL 7 Beta documentation?

Thanks for the feedback OneSkyWalker - I have now updated the guide to mention specifically that GRUB2 is used in this case.

The beta version of the documentation has been published now, and the above two links contain the same content.

Thanks again!
Clayton
