Description of problem: (gnome-screensaver:19714): Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'gnome-screensaver' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'. (Details: serial 138451 error_code 2 request_code 151 (XFree86-VidModeExtension) minor_code 18) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gnome-screensaver 3.6.1 How reproducible: I think always after I undock, then process has died and I need to start it again. Steps to Reproduce: 1. dock laptop with external monitor and laptop lid panel turned off by xrandr 2. close lid 3. go elsewhere and open lid to wake up Actual results: process died Expected results: process still running and waiting to lock your screen Additional info: Using gnome-screensaver under XFCE I found two related old bugs: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=727557 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/288239 Now issue is exposed because the gnome-screensaver-command no longer spawns gnome-screensaver automatically. Why did it stop doing so?! It would be very confusing for non-technical users as they don't know how to restart (even don't know that they need to restart).
In fact it is not always reproducible. Now I needed a couple of ocnnects disconnects to get a crash. But should be often enough with the described setup. Is there any easy way to have a service or something that will restart gnome-screensaver if it dies?
This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '23'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 23 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
