Description Don Pellegrino 2016-04-22 20:12:28 UTC
Description of problem:

The Motif Window Manager (mwm) includes a maximize button as part of its window decorations. The man page documents the expected behavior as:

"Maximize Button: To make the window fill the screen (or enlarge to the largest size allowed by the configuration files), click button 1 on the maximize button (the frame box with a large square in it)."

When mwm is initially started, the maximize button works as expected. However, if the desktop is resized subsequent uses of maximize resize windows to the previous desktop size. Therefore, if the desktop is resized for a smaller display, the maximize button will enlarge windows beyond the ends of the desktop.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

2.3.3

How reproducible:

Consistently reproducable

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run X with mwm managing the screen
2. Resize the screen
3. Maximize a window

Actual results:

Windows does not maximize to screen extents

Expected results:

Window should maximize to screen extents

Additional info:

Screen resize operations were performed within a NICE DCV Endstation session for testing.

I am able to confirm that new desktop sizes are reflected in the output of xrandr. A subsequent maximize operation on an xterm window reizes the window beyond the size shown as active in xrandr.
