Description Leonid Kanter 2004-09-22 08:25:44 UTC
Description of problem:

I inserted NCR53c810 scsi with scsi2 disk attached after after
successful installation fc3test2 on IDE disk. But kudzu did not detect
it. This device is present in both pcitable and modules.pcimap and it
was always successfully detected. If I insert module sym53c8xx
manually, it works ok. Record for /dev/sda appear in fstab.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

kudzu-1.1.89-1.i386.rpm

How reproducible:

always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install fc3test2
2. insert ncr 53c8xx with some device (disk or cdrom)
3. boot

Actual results:

kudzu find nothing during system boot or if you run it later from console.

Expected results:

kudzu must find it, load module, create modules.conf entry and re-run
mkinitrd.

What does 'kudzu -p -b pci' say?

Comment 3 Leonid Kanter 2004-09-22 20:20:48 UTC
I got it it. There are no module ncr53c8xx in current kernel, must be
replaced by sym53c8xx.

[root@leon root]# modprobe sym53c8xx
dmesg says:
sym0: <810> rev 0x2 at pci 0000:02:0a.0 irq 11

[root@leon root]# modprobe ncr53c8xx
FATAL: Module ncr53c8xx not found.
[root@leon root]# grep ncr53c8xx /usr/share/hwdata/pcitable

0x1000 0x0004 "ncr53c8xx" "LSI Logic / Symbios Logic|53c815"

All these entries are incorrect now, must be sym53c8xx
