Description Michael S. 2016-04-29 22:53:12 UTC
Description of problem:

I installed a Fedora 23 on a sd card, with a beaglebone black. The kernel setup with 4.2.3-300.fc23.armv7hl boot fine, but 4.4.8-300.fc23.armv7hl don't, and after some time, the board reboot and select the same kernel

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-core-4.4.8-300.fc23.armv7hl

How reproducible:
each time. it happened also with previous versions of 4.4.8

Steps to Reproduce:
1.update kernel
2.reboot
3.

Actual results:
do not boot

Expected results:
boot

Additional info:
I am checking if there is more than the version, and the initrd is much smaller for the new kernel than the old. Since the old is the kernel used for installation, it is not surprising, but maybe the issue is on this side.

I do not know how I could get more info on the command-line, and not familliar with jtag to debug the issue (despites having the hardware).

Comment 1 Michael S. 2016-04-29 22:58:45 UTC
And by "do not boot", I mean that after selecting the kernel in u-boot, it load and do not print anything besides:

Starting kernel ...

that's the exact same message on a working kernel (minus the various size of file), and the old kernel continue

Comment 2 Michael S. 2016-04-30 00:13:17 UTC
So, after trying to diagnose, it seems that the kernel and initrd were corrupted silently by lack of disk space.

The problem is mostly arm-specific, because:
- dtb is taking space (15 to 30 M )
- dtb didn't seems to be removed on kernel removal
- rescue disk is taking space for nothing (at least on my board)
- uInitrd and uImage take space ( ~ 20 M )

And there is only 262 M setup by the installer.

So i am not sure exactly where should this bug moved :/

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2016-11-25 07:30:55 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '23'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 23 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2016-12-20 20:12:35 UTC
Fedora 23 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2016-12-20. Fedora 23 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
