Description Cyril Lopez 2016-05-03 08:16:07 UTC
Description of problem:
We know UEFI doesn't work to deploy with Director but nothing in the documentation.

Other bug #1259990 #1290272 #1284628

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
OSP-d 7
OSP-d 8

We could add the node regarding UEFI in preparation to propose to use BIOS boot.

Comment 2 Dan Macpherson 2016-05-03 14:33:25 UTC
I had seen UEFI boot support added to ironic but I wasn't sure what version of OSP supports it.

Lucas, do you know if UEFI boot support is available in OSPd 8?

Cyril, FYI, if support has been added, the upstream instructions are on this page:
http://docs.openstack.org/developer/ironic/deploy/install-guide.html

If support has been added to OSPd 8, I'll create a KBase article, similar to this article: https://access.redhat.com/articles/2142881

If not, I'll add a note saying UEFI support isn't available as a boot mode.

Yes I know that, but Customer said me : you could have a notice in the doc. Could be just to provide this link. BTW, form my point of view is better to setup the bios in legacy to be sure it's works.

Add note about UEFI boot mode support:

https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en/red-hat-openstack-platform/8/director-installation-and-usage/53-tagging-nodes-into-profiles

Cyril, was this what you were aiming for?

It's perfect ! Thanks for that.

Did you do the same in OSP-d 7 documentation ?

Comment 7 Dan Macpherson 2016-05-13 15:02:17 UTC
Sure, I can take care of that too.

Yes for OSPd 8 the iPXE + UEFI support should be there.

Cheers,
Lucas

Here's the link: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux_OpenStack_Platform/7/html/Director_Installation_and_Usage/chap-Installing_the_Overcloud.html#sect-Manually_Tagging_the_Nodes

I'll also need to write an article for UEFI support in OSP 9 (and OSP 8, according to Lucas' response in Comment #8).
