I wrote cowsay a long time ago. (Whether you believe a stranger in a bug report is up to you.) I converted the CVS history to Git and posted on GitHub. Also added tags for a 3.04 release and easy source download from a well-known persistent location that is not likely to vanish from the net without notice for an extended period of time. License is GPLv3, but "GPLv3 or later" is acceptable.
