Description Phil V 2016-07-25 04:53:50 UTC
Description of problem:
all yum commands are intercepted and redirected to dnf, even when dnf does not handle them.

yum verify-all is a useful command.

http://dnf.readthedocs.io/en/latest/user_faq.html#can-i-have-dnf-and-yum-installed-side-by-side
says they can be installed side by side.

yet...

yum verify-all

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Name : dnf
Arch : noarch
Epoch : 0
Version : 1.1.9
Release : 2.fc23

Name : yum
Arch : noarch
Epoch : 0
Version : 3.4.3
Release : 507.fc23

How reproducible: always

Steps to Reproduce:

yum verify-all

Actual results:

Yum command has been deprecated, redirecting to '/usr/bin/dnf verify-all'.
See 'man dnf' and 'man yum2dnf' for more information.
To transfer transaction metadata from yum to DNF, run:
'dnf install python-dnf-plugins-extras-migrate && dnf-2 migrate'

No such command: verify-all. Please use /usr/bin/dnf --help
It could be a DNF plugin command, try: "dnf install 'dnf-command(verify-all)'"

Expected results:
don't intercept yum commands and direct to dnf if dnf can't handle them.

Verify plugin will be implemented.

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2016-11-25 09:27:47 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 23 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 23. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '23'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 23 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Great! Looking forward to dnf implementing yum verify plugin! :)

Comment 4 Panu Matilainen 2019-08-08 07:51:52 UTC
I hope the plan is to use librpm functionality for verification instead of reimplementing everything in python like yum did...

Comment 5 John Boero 2020-01-27 12:42:01 UTC
Hey hey has anybody picked this up? Not solved since Fedora 23? This was one of yum's best forensic tools and it would be nice to have it back again.

rpm -V works individually for now but dnf could sure help.

Thx

That was an encouraging announcement. yum verify-all was a very useful command. dnf was intended to be a replacement for yum.
Any news on this?

Hello, I've adjusted the priority to reflect the current status. We'll likely do this in next version of dnf, dnf 5, but it's low on the priority list.

Comment 8 Jaroslav Mracek 2023-08-10 07:19:44 UTC
May I ask you why rpm -V is not sufficient?
