Description Jason Montleon 2016-07-25 15:00:36 UTC
Description of problem:
Within the QCI web ui we'd like to validate that the interface a user has entered exists. For instance if they enter eth0 or nic7 we'd like to be able to confirm that the interface exists to help ensure a good deployment.

As far as I know no such information is collected right now so we have no way to validate.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
OSP 8

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install OSP 8 Director
2. Create a plan that uses a non-existent interface for the neutron public interface
3. Deploy

Actual results:
Deployment fails

Expected results:
Ideally either openstack director itself, or we can validate that the user input should work.

Hello!

We collect information about all interfaces during introspection, it's available since OSP8. Please check http://tripleo.org/advanced_deployment/introspection_data.html for information on how to access the full introspection data.

However, I would highly advise against relying on interface names. Strictly speaking, they are not guaranteed to be the same during introspection and on a real instance.

Hope that helps.
