Created attachment 1192115 [details] dmesg from recent reboot Description of problem: When machine is booted, the following error occurs: ... kernel: [drm:drm_crtc_helper_set_config [drm_kms_helper]] *ERROR* failed to set mode on [CRTC:32:crtc-1] Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): kernel-core-4.6.4-301.fc24.x86_64 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Reboot Actual results: Get error message in dmesg and journal. Expected results: No error message. Additional info: I've been getting this message for many years. My desktop works fine. I needed to add "video=1280x1024@60" boot parameter to get the console screen geometry correct. Otherwise console also works fine, except recently console fonts sized 18-24 are almost all garbled (bug 1356243), which is likely unrelated. dmesg attached.
*********** MASS BUG UPDATE ************** We apologize for the inconvenience. There is a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 24 kernel bugs. Fedora 24 has now been rebased to 4.7.4-200.fc24. Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel. If you have moved on to Fedora 25, and are still experiencing this issue, please change the version to Fedora 25. If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.
Symptoms are same with 4.7.4-200.fc24: the error message still appears at boot; if video=1280x1024@60 is not added to the boot line, then the geometry of the virtual console is wrong - otherwise everything works fine. (The garbled console fonts were corrected with a previous kernel release, and there is no regression - the console fonts work fine.)
My 10 year old PC is a "media center" edition and includes a TV crt output, in addition to the digital monitor output. Apparently the error message pertains to this not-used crt output, and is essentially irrelevant, to me.
