Description daniel.zuck 2016-08-19 21:23:13 UTC
Prenote:
This is mostly identical to Bug #1365817, where the related bug addresses FC24, and I have the same issue on FC23. As I see it was fixed in Kernel 4.6.6 for FC24, but it is still current in Kernel 4.6.6 for FC23, it appears to me that FC23 is missing this likely mostly identical fix - so I opened this one.

Description of problem:
After upgrading from 4.6.4-201.fc23.x86_64 to 4.6.5-200.fc23 my onboard audio device is not initialized anymore. This status is still current in 4.6.6-200.fc23

My mainboard is a MSI-H170M.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
4.6.5-200.fc23 and 4.6.6-200.fc23

How reproducible:
Booting into 4.6.4-201.fc23.x86_64 enables the audio device; 4.6.5 and 4.6.6 do not.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Booting into 4.6.5-200.fc23 or 4.6.6-200.fc23 on MSI-H170M with audio 8086:a170 (rev 31) Subsystem: 1462:f982 -> no oboard audio
2. Booting into 4.6.4 -> onboard audio works.
3.

Actual results:
[    6.951704] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: enabling device (0000 -> 0002)
[    6.951935] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: HSW/BDW HD-audio HDMI/DP requires binding with gfx driver
[    6.951976] snd_hda_intel 0000:01:00.1: Handle vga_switcheroo audio client

Additional info:
lsmod in 4.6.5 shows that
snd_hda_codec_realtek and snd_hda_codec_generic
are not loaded.
