Description Florian Höch 2016-08-24 10:48:16 UTC

Screenshot of FileZilla demonstrating the issue

Description of problem:
Whenever a modal dialog is shown in a wxGTK3 application, the application window(s) behind the dialog turn transparent. This breaks visual consistency, because transparency is not used in this way in other parts of the system. This behavior is not specific to any particular wxGTK3 application.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
3.0.2

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a application that uses wxGTK3 as its visual toolkit (e.g. FileZilla).
2. Open any modal dialog in said application (e.g. the site manager in FileZilla).

Actual results:
The application windows behind the dialog turn transparent, but there is no consistency - parts of the windows may be transparent, others may not, and there may even be visual artifacts.

Expected results:
wxGTK3 should follow a visual style that is in line with the rest of the system.

Additional info:
Screenshot of FileZilla attached to demonstrate the visual effect, but note that the reported issue is not specific to FileZilla (or any particular wxGTK3 application).

Filezilla looking normal?

I don't see the same behavior. Filezilla's modal dialogs look like any other GTK+3 modal dialog to me. See screenshot. I don't understand why you see something different.

Fedora 24, right?

Comment 2 Florian Höch 2016-09-03 08:39:30 UTC
Yes, Fedora 24.

If I install gnome tweak tool and disable "Attached Modal Dialogs" it looks like in your screenshot.

How do native GTK+3 modal dialogs look to you? Ie, open gedit and click 'Save.' How does it look?

Those look normal (underlying window is never transparent) no matter the "Attached Modal Dialogs" setting.

Hi,
In https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4267#c5 I have a similar problem reported .

dnf install gnome-tweak-tool

Have we a way to fix it or not ? I don't understood .

Thanks.

I don't think that is the same problem. This particular problem is about modal dialogs only. I'll respond to the other bug about those problems.

Comment 8 Scott Talbert 2017-05-17 21:17:59 UTC
@Florian, we've updated wxGTK3 to version 3.0.3 in F25. Assuming you're using F25 now, do you still see this problem?

Comment 9 Fedora End Of Life 2017-07-25 22:37:05 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 24 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 2 (two) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 24. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '24'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 24 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 10 Fedora End Of Life 2017-08-08 16:45:51 UTC
Fedora 24 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-08-08. Fedora 24 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
