Description Oliver Ilian 2016-08-25 11:45:12 UTC
Description of problem:
The gtk3 fileselector doesn't sort folders before file, it's inconsistent with old versions and other applications and toolkits

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gtk3-3.14.13-20.el7

How reproducible:
In file selector of GTK3 apps.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open a file in gedit

Actual results:
Folders are not sorted before files

Expected results:
configurable option like in nautilus, which allows to sort folders before files

Additional info:
copied from bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-settings/+bug/1461085

Upstream had the bad idea of not sorting folders first anymore in GTK 3.14. However they added an option later in commit 2aa3eea781ed21a02ecdf1e3c753a1ec5694d6c8

Comment 2 Matthias Clasen 2016-08-30 19:34:14 UTC
The setting is shared between the file chooser and nautilus. If you change the sort-folders-before-files setting in nautilus, gtk+ will pick it up too. In later versions of GTK+, we've added back a context menu item for it in the file chooser.
