Description of problem: When playing back HTML5 video in firefox, video freezes after a couple of seconds. Playback is fine outside of full screen, and full screen mode can be exited safely by pressing escape. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Firefox 48.0.1_1.fc24 xorg-x11-drv-intel 2.99.917 24.20160712.fc24 How reproducible: Attempt to play full screen HTML5 video in firefox on this laptop. Freezes 100% of the time Additional info: GPU is Intel HD 5300. There is a similar bug report, 1287796, also showing firefox hanging on full screen HTML5 video. I, however, get no similar output from dmesg, and the issue does not cause the whole system to crash.
I have also experienced this issue with both Firefox 48 and Firefox 49 on Fedora 24. I am running Fedora 24 x86_64 on a Lenovo ThinkPad 450s with a Intel i5300U processor and an Intel HD 5500 integrated GPU. When I open any HTML5 video in fullscreen on Firefox, the video freezes. I can still exit fullscreen mode by pressing escape. I have the following version of Firefox and the Intel graphics driver: xorg-x11-drv-intel.x86_64 2.99.917-24.20160712.fc24 firefox.x86_64 49.0-2.fc24 If there is any more information that I can provide that would be useful in diagnosing this problem, please let me know.
I think the problem is DE here. Which DE do you run? Gnome-shell or something else? Can you try MATE for instance?
I have tried to reproduce the issue with the 3 following desktop environments. 1. Gnome Shell using X - the problem is present 2. Gnome Shell using Wayland - the problem is not present 3. Gnome Classic - the problem is not present I have the following version of Gnome Shell installed: gnome-shell.x86_64 3.20.4-1.fc24 I also have RedShift and Workrave installed redshift.x86_64 1.11-2.fc24 workrave.x86_64 1.10.15-1.fc24 The problem is still present if Redshift and Workrave are not running. So it may be related to running Firefox with Gnome Shell.

Getting the same issue here with a Lenovo ThinkPad 450s with Intel i7-5600U and Intel HD 5500. The rest of my setup is the same (Fedora 24, gnome), however I do not use redshift or workgrave. The problem is easily reproducible on my machine by just trying to watch a youtube video on full screen. The video starts normally, then freezes for some seconds, then continues normally for a bit, then again freezes etc. There are no issues when the video is not on full screen.
Also the sound seems to not be affected in any way.
The issue seems to have been fixed as I have not experienced it today.
The issue has recurred for me again. So it seems that it may be intermittent in nature.
(In reply to Martin Stransky from comment #2) > I think the problem is DE here. Which DE do you run? Gnome-shell or > something else? Can you try MATE for instance? It does appear to be the DE. When I try MATE video playback is fine. The bug is still present in gnome with latest f24 updates installed.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 24 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 2 (two) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 24. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '24'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 24 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 24 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-08-08. Fedora 24 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
