Created attachment 1198443 [details] System journal during the incident I'm not really sure what package is the root cause of this, so I apologize if this is filed incorrectly against NetworkManager. Description of problem: After turning WiFi on, the list of networks is missing from the quick select screen in GNOME. However, when I open gnome-settings and select "Network" all the networks show up there. I've attached the log and here are some screenshots which hopefully are worth a thousand words: No wifi showing up: https://www.jcline.org/owncloud/index.php/s/NDEGYvGjvjIpoL0 Lots of wifi showing up: https://www.jcline.org/owncloud/index.php/s/3UxshPNg2aivNcy Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): NetworkManager-l2tp-1.2.2-1.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-openvpn-1.2.4-2.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-bluetooth-1.4.0-2.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-openconnect-1.2.3-0.20160606git5009f9.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-vpnc-gnome-1.2.2-1.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-1.4.0-2.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-libnm-1.4.0-2.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-libreswan-1.2.4-1.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-wwan-1.4.0-2.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-pptp-gnome-1.2.2-1.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-config-connectivity-fedora-1.4.0-2.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-vpnc-1.2.2-1.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-glib-1.4.0-2.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-openvpn-gnome-1.2.4-2.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-wifi-1.4.0-2.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-pptp-1.2.2-1.fc25.x86_64 NetworkManager-adsl-1.4.0-2.fc25.x86_64 How reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Be somewhere where you have no saved wifi networks. 2. Turn off the wifi hardware and then turn it back on. 3. Try to connect to a network with the GNOME drop-down "Select Network" button. 4. Open up gnome-settings and look at the list of networks. 5. Connect to a network via gnome-settings 6. Notice the list of networks in the quick select screen is populated.
If you see Wi-Fi networks via $ nmcli device wifi list then NM has the list and it should be available to all tools. So this looks like a problem in the "quick select screen". Judging the appearance of the first screenshot, the window belongs to the Gnome Shell. Thus you should reassign the bug to gnome-shell component.
Thanks for the pointer. I wasn't sure who provides what.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '25'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
