Hello,

we have considered the inclusion request and decided not to do so. The module is not part of the OpenLDAP project and due to this it might be confusing (e.g. smbk5pwd module is already included and not only in the name very similar), and should there be an issue with it it would affect openldap component although the issue would not be related to OpenLDAP project's codebase.

However, feel free to request your own component you would maintain, at Fedora Project. I think a component name like openldap-extras and a package name like openldap-extras-smbkrb5pwd would be possible to be obtained. We might be able to help with some issues should you go this path.

Hello,

I find your reasoning invalid in two aspects:

1. It is not feasible to maintain the module in a separate project, since it would cause dependency hell. The binary should be always in sync with openldap version. It is not feasible to follow all the builds of openldap and immediatelly compile new version of smbkrb5pwd just to satisfy dependency.

2. While is is somewhat true, that the function of smb5krb5pwd is somewhat similar to smbk5pwd, the difference is, that smbkrb5pwd synchronizes passwords with MIT kerberos included in Fedora, while smbk5pwd synchronizes passwords with Heimdal kerberos, which unfortunatelly is not included in Fedora and thus this module is useless.

Hello,

We are considering creating a package openldap-servers-extras that would include this overlay. We consider to explicitly state in the package's description that this new package would contain a software that is not part of the OpenLDAP Project and therefore the support for it may be limited.

If you have more information that would be valuable to us when including this (like possible pitfalls) then we would be grateful). Thank you.

We will keep this bug updated with further information.

Regards.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 27 is nearing its end of life.
On 2018-Nov-30 Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for
Fedora 27. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases
that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as
EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '27'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 27 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

We don't consider working on openldap-servers package anymore. We only rebuild the upstream versions as they come.
Closing as WONTFIX.
