Description cmihai+redhat 2016-09-12 13:46:42 UTC
The version of hiredis available in EPEL 7 is 0.12.1. If possible, please backport version 0.13.3 from Rawhide to EPEL7, to make it available on other distros such as CentOS and Oracle Linux. The new version fixes some potential crashes and memory leaks.

Comment 1 Igor Gnatenko 2016-09-14 08:56:15 UTC
Policy for EPEL is to now have any major updates... So I'm not sure if "potential crashes" and "memory leaks" is enough reason.

Yeah, I am a bit leary here too. There's a number of other packages that depend on this one:

% repoquery --whatrequires hiredis --alldeps
collectd-redis-0:5.5.2-1.el7.x86_64
collectd-write_redis-0:5.5.2-1.el7.x86_64
hiredis-devel-0:0.12.1-1.el7.x86_64
opensips-redis-0:1.10.5-3.el7.x86_64
openvas-libraries-0:8.0.7-2.el7.x86_64
openvas-libraries-0:8.0.8-2.el7.x86_64
syslog-ng-redis-0:3.5.6-3.el7.x86_64
zmap-0:2.1.1-1.el7.x86_64

at the very least we would need to coordinate with those folks and make sure there's no incompatiblity. It's also not clear from the changelogs, etc if theres any abi change here.

:) Perhaps you could build the new version and see if there's any ABI/API changes and if it works with all the above, etc?

Is this addressed to the person who submitted the request (me)? :-) Sure, I can do this; will update with more information when done.

Any news here? Did we still want to attempt this? Or should we just drop it since we haven't done it in 4 years. :)

As the original reporter, I just built the package manually in the end. From my side, this can be closed.

ok, thanks. Sorry this fell through the cracks.
