Description Vishwanath 2016-09-13 07:07:30 UTC
Description of problem:
Name and Hostname are two items in Content host page. But when we try to change item Name then it automatically changes item Hostname.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Satellite 6.2

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Go to Satellite 6.2 WebUI --> Navigate to Content Host page --> Change Name attribute--> We observe Hostname attribute also changes.

Actual results:
Hostname also changes when we change the name attribute.

Expected results:
Ideally, the change of Name attribute should not impact Hostname.

based on the comment by Justin in the pull request what could be the next action item, do we need to add another attribute for mentioning Systems Hostname or rename the current attribute to avoid the confusion?

Comment 7 Justin Sherrill 2016-09-19 12:42:53 UTC
Amit,

Satellite 6 (based on foreman) only allows for one host 'name'. The only reason host 'name' and 'hostname' were split before 6.2 was because of incomplete integration between sub-components of Satellite (foreman and katello). Now that that is complete there is no longer a host 'name' separate from the hostname.

If it is desired to have this, we should likely open a discussion/RFE with foreman for adding an additional attribute for a 'display name' within foreman itself. It would help to understand why the user wants such an attribute (something other than 'they used to have it').

Thanks!

-Justin
