Description Giovanni Tirloni 2016-09-15 16:24:08 UTC
Created attachment 1201315 [details]
output of alsa-info.sh

Description of problem: Hissing sound (static noise) through headphones.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

Fedora 24
Kernel 4.7.3-200.fc24.x86_64

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Connect headphone to front headphone jack
2. Hear hissing sound
3. Switch to back line-out jack
4. No hissing sound
5. Connect headphone to front headphone jack
6. Mute output through mixer -> no hissing sound anymore
7. Disconnect headphone cable -> no hissing sound anymore
8. Connect headphone to Android phone -> no hissing sound
9. Connect headphone to same computer while on Win10 or rebooting -> no hissing sound

Actual results:
Hissing sound / static noise

Expected results:
No hissing sound / static noise

Additional info:

To rule out a defective headphone, I have connected it my Android phone and there is no hissing sound. I also have Win10 installed on this same computer and there is no noise while using it. Finally, while the computer is rebooting or before Linux had a chance to load all drivers, there is no noise.

I've tried adding "options snd-hda-intel model=generic" to /etc/modprobe.d but that had no effect.

Hardware:

ASUS Sabertooth Z170 Mark 1 motherboard
Bose QuietComfort 15 headphone
Generic Philips earbuds
