journalctl-shutdown-log

Description of problem:
Acer laptop VN7-792G-755U.
Internal SSD and HDD with F25 Alpha Workstation installed.

On the 4.8.0 kernels I see a number of errors when shutting down my laptop.
I installed F25 using encrypted default LVM file system layout created via Anaconda (with EFI partition).

The error messages output on screen not captured in the logs refer to kernel semaphores. I believe it's scanning devices at that point.

I will add an attachment if I can get a clear image of the other messages.

journatlctl logs these issues during shutdown:

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Fedora 25 Workstation (Alpha)
kernel 4.8.0-0.rc7.git0.1.fc25.x86_64

How reproducible:
Every time I power off the laptop

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start laptop normally
2. Use laptop for any amount of time
3. Power off the laptop (via GNOME or CLI)

Actual results:
Screen full of messages about the file system

Expected results:
Laptop should poweroff cleanly without the screen of error messages

Additional info:
I did not have these errors on the 4.6 kernels in F24 that was previously installed on this laptop.

Please advise any further information required

*********** MASS BUG UPDATE **************
We apologize for the inconvenience. There is a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 25 kernel bugs.

Fedora 25 has now been rebased to 4.9.3-200.fc25. Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel.

If you have moved on to Fedora 26, and are still experiencing this issue, please change the version to Fedora 26.

If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.

Comment 5 Dagan McGregor 2017-01-17 02:38:01 UTC
I have updated to the 4.9.3-200.fc25 kernel package. Yes, I am still getting this error when I power off the laptop.

There is a new error message that appears after the messages above stop, but just before the actual power off which I haven't captured yet (something with "nobody cares" in the output).
This is possibly related to the new ACPI errors that appear when I power on the laptop, so I may log a separate bug for it.

Comment 6 Dagan McGregor 2017-01-17 02:39:26 UTC
Please let me know if you want any specific information from my laptop to help diagnose these messages.

Comment 7 Dagan McGregor 2017-01-31 11:40:27 UTC
I have updated to the latest 4.9.6-200.fc25.x86_64 and still have this message.

I also have the message on my work Dell laptop which also runs Fedora 25 workstation, running the same kernel package.

Both laptops are using LUKS encryption with logical volumes which are unlocked with password on (re)boot.

*********** MASS BUG UPDATE **************
This bug is being closed with INSUFFICIENT_DATA as there has not been a response in 2 weeks. If you are still experiencing this issue, please reopen and attach the
relevant data from the latest kernel you are running and any data that might have been requested previously.

Comment 10 Dagan McGregor 2017-04-29 12:45:31 UTC
This bug is still happening with the same error as it has been since I logged it with the 4.8 kernel.

The only change with the Fedora updates is now it is happening on more than one laptop I am using (my Dell work laptop).

If you need additional information, please specify what it is you are expecting so I can look at adding it from my laptops. I don't know what further information would be useful at this point.

Thanks.

Comment 11 Fedora End Of Life 2017-11-16 19:28:15 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '25'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 12 Fedora End Of Life 2017-12-12 10:10:19 UTC
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
