Description Diamantis Karagkiaouris 2016-09-24 18:01:17 UTC
Description of problem:
In F24 i was able to plug in my external hdd or usb on pc and it was automounted by fedora. Also there was a shortcut on desktop. Now on rawhide they aren't mounted automatically and i need to mount manually. Both scenarios take place on a xfce DE.

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Plug in an external Hdd device or any usb stick

Actual results:
Drive was not mounted in the system

Expected results:
To be automatically mounted and a shortcut on desktop to appear

Thank you

Do you have thunar-volman installed and configured?

Comment 2 Diamantis Karagkiaouris 2016-09-28 19:51:37 UTC
thunar-volman is already installed but i am not aware of any configuration needed. Is there any reference for help?

Comment 3 Kevin Fenzi 2016-09-29 01:58:42 UTC
run thunar-volman-settings and there's a bunch of prefs there like 'mount removable media when inserted' etc.

Can you see if those are checked?

Comment 4 Diamantis Karagkiaouris 2016-09-30 17:35:35 UTC
Yes. The options needed are checked but it can't automount anything.

Comment 5 Kevin Fenzi 2016-09-30 19:35:59 UTC
Odd. How are you logging in? Does sound, etc work for you?

(If logind doesn't think you are 'local' you won't get permissions to mount local drives... but that would also prevent things like sound from working)

sorry to disturb, but this is not a rawhide problem nor XFCE problem only.

I have upgraded from F23 ( gnome and cinamon ) to F24 and have the same problem.

the usb drives and my phone get recognized correctly,
but not automounted.

I can see the devices in /dev/ created,
I can mount the usb stick via "disks utility",
but if i replug it, it's not automounted.

Example:

Nov 2 14:45:26 eve kernel: scsi 4:0:0:0: Direct-Access Intenso Rainbow Line 8.07 PQ: 0 ANSI: 4
Nov 2 14:45:26 eve kernel: sd 4:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg4 type 0
Nov 2 14:45:26 eve kernel: sd 4:0:0:0: [sdd] 7907328 512-byte logical blocks: (4.05 GB/3.77 GiB)
Nov 2 14:45:26 eve kernel: sd 4:0:0:0: [sdd] Write Protect is off
Nov 2 14:45:26 eve kernel: sd 4:0:0:0: [sdd] Write cache: disabled, read cache: enabled, doesn't support DPO or FUA
Nov 2 14:45:26 eve kernel: sdd: sdd1
Nov 2 14:45:26 eve kernel: sd 4:0:0:0: [sdd] Attached SCSI removable disk

and thats it.

same output on a laptop with f24, but with the addon:

usbcore: registered new interface driver cdc_acm
cdc_acm: USB Abstract Control Model driver for USB modes and ISDN adapters

and than it gets automounted as it should be.

Looks like a core function is broken.

...snip...

So you are seeing this in gnome and cinamon logins?

How are you logging in? gdm? startx?

Comment 8 customercare 2016-11-06 19:58:38 UTC
atm: gnome with gdm

but we located the bug somewhere in the dbus <> gnome-session communication area.

Pattern:

if nautilus or nemo get launched inside a bash terminal, it works.
if nautilus or nemo get launched at startup, it does not.
if nautilus or nemo get launched via alt+f2, it does not.
