Description of problem: On epel 6, the highest version of h5py is 1.3.1, whereas on epel 7 it is 2.3.1 Can epel 6 b e updated such that h5py also has version 2.3.1? With h5py version 1.3.1 numpy can not handle the VLEN data type,
http://docs.h5py.org/en/latest/whatsnew/2.0.html#changes-which-may-break-existing-code indicates a fair amount of changes could break existing code. EPEL strives to provide api stability, so I would say no. There are various other ways to install alternate versions, e.g. virtualenv, conda.
Indeed epel 6 is now static. This will never happen.
