Description Christian Schaller 2004-11-09 13:27:10 EST
Description of problem:
I have a SMC EZ connect G wireless pcmcia card (SMC2835W)
With the firmware.agent file that comes with Fedora 3 is doesn't work
with the following messages appearing in var/log/messages

Nov  9 19:21:56 cschalle kernel: ip_tables: (C) 2000-2002 Netfilter
core team
Nov  9 19:21:57 cschalle kernel: prism54: request_firmware() failed
for 'isl3890'
Nov 9 19:21:57 cschalle kernel: eth1: could not upload firmware
Nov 9 19:21:57 cschalle dhclient: sit0: unknown hardware address type 776
Nov  9 19:21:57 cschalle kernel: prism54: request_firmware() failed
for 'isl3890

Now I found the following forum entry on fedoraforum.org:

Wgetting the firmware.agent from prism54.org as suggested there:
wget http://prism54.org/~hvr/firmware.agent

replacing the one bundled with fedora makes it work.

Your firmware is in the wrong directory; it needs to be in /lib/firmware.
