Description fulminemizzega 2016-10-16 19:14:18 UTC
Description of problem:
No HDMI output with F25 beta 1.1. Installed version (with all updates installed as of today, kernel is 4.8.1-1) produces first pastebin
link, liveusb (x86_64) produces second pastebin.
Third pastebin is journal output from F25 beta 1.1 i686 boot with VGA and HDMI display both plugged in.
Graphic cards: Nvidia GeForce 9300 integrated on https://www.zotac.com/us/product/mainboards/zotac-geforce-9300-itx-wifi

How reproducible:
I've done multiple tries: 1) boot with a VGA display connected, everything works as espected. As soon as I plug in HDMI, VGA goes black as if there is no signal anymore, HDMI output does not show anything at all, display says that there is no signal (on hdmi input). Unplugging or plugging in again do not change anything. 2) boot with both connected, I can see a few boot lines, then as soon as linux changes display resolution HDMI does not work, VGA output is left with 2 lines of kernel output (from early boot I think) and the VGA display is flickering.
3) HDMI output only, after grub loads linux I can see some lines before resolution changes, after that there is no HDMI signal.

F24 live is working fine with HDMI output.

I asked on the #nouveau irc channel, the issue is nouveau related.
This thread on the mailing list is about the same issue, there has been some discussion: https://www.mail-archive.com/nouveau@lists.freedesktop.org/msg25675.html
It seems like NVAC (like GeForce 9300) boards do have issue after a commit with HDMI output.
To get a partially working display a possible workaround is disabling nouveau entirely at boot, by adding "nouveau.modeset=0" to the kernel command line.

This issue is still present as of F25 RC1.2

Looks like this upstream bug is related:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=98405

This issue affects my ASUS ION box, too.

Also, this issue affects the official nVidia binary and the RPMFusion nVidia binary.

*********** MASS BUG UPDATE **************
We apologize for the inconvenience. There is a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale. Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 25 kernel bugs.

Fedora 25 has now been rebased to 4.9.3-200.fc25. Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel.

If you have moved on to Fedora 26, and are still experiencing this issue, please change the version to Fedora 26.

If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.

This is upstreamed one.

Although this bug is quite old and upstream obviously know about it, still it hasn't been promoted to the kernel tree.

It is necessary to apply it to ALL Fedora kernels.

Fix is currently within 4.10.0-1.fc26.x86_64,
waiting for 4.10 stabilization for f24 and f25 branch ...
