Description of problem: I'm seeing an issue where the contents of a window suddenly stop being updated except instantaneously at the point where the window is switched away from or switched back to. I'm seeing this on two different computers with different h/w, different DE's and different applications: (1) An x86_64 PC with a NVIDIA Corporation GF106 [GeForce GTS 450] (rev a1) graphics card running KDE. This happens with konsole, xterm and emacs there. (2) An Intel i3 NUC box with Intel Corporation HD Graphics 5500 running Gnome. I've only seen this there with mythfrontend, but that and skype are all that normally run there. With mythfrontend, this seems reliably caused by playing a video. After the video completes, the normal interface is only redrawn if I flip to another app. However, I can navigate blind to another video and play that and the video playback is fine. With konsole, xterm and emacs, this has been happening for a while and definitely goes back a few Fedora iterations. For mythfrontend, this started happening with the upgrade to F24. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Computer (1): kernel-4.7.5-200.fc24.x86_64 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.18.4-4.fc24.x86_64 mesa-libEGL-12.0.3-1.fc24.x86_64 konsole5-16.08.1-2.fc24.x86_64 kwin-5.7.5-1.fc24.x86_64 GNU Emacs 25.1.50.1 (compiled by me, not using libXaw3d not gtk). Computer (2): kernel-4.7.6-200.fc24.x86_64 xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.18.4-4.fc24.x86_64 mesa-libEGL-12.0.3-1.fc24.x86_64 mythtv-frontend-0.28-7.fc24.x86_64 gnome-shell-3.20.4-1.fc24.x86_64 How reproducible: With mythtv-frontend - 100%. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start emacs/konsole/whatever. 2. Use it for some amount of time till the problem happens (might be days of constant use, might be minutes, might not seem to happen at all). or: 1. Start mythfrontend. 2. Navigate to the recorded videos. 3. Play video to completion. 4. The screen goes black with just a mouse cursor on it. 5. Switching to a running gnome-terminal will cause a redraw.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 24 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 2 (two) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 24. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 24 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-08-08. Fedora 24 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.
