Description Phillip Lahman 2016-11-01 12:16:12 UTC
Description of problem:
I am trying to install Fedora 25 from a USB 3.0, Sandisk 32 gb.
I used MediaWriter on Windows 10 to create the flash drive. It boots fast and works well.
The hard drive(s) are multi-boot with Windows 7, Ubuntu and Fedora.
I tried "network update/install" of Fedora 25 beta, DNF and through some set of (i do not know what happened), the system now looks like the fedora partition is a mix of 25 and 26 components. So, I created a flash drive and want to fix it to be just Fedora 25 beta.
When I use the "Install to hard drive" feature and get to the partitioning process, I can not select the fedora "/" partition as the target for "/". I can select the "/boot" and "/home" partitions, but I can not select the "/" partition.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible: Every time I try

Steps to Reproduce:
1. The system started life as Windows 7
2. It has evolved with Fedora and Ubuntu for several years. I use it to stay current with Fedora and ubuntu. Since I "share" the /boot partition with ubuntu and Fedora, I do have to "fiddle" with the appropriate grub.cfg file after kernel updates. Use DNF to "network upgrade" to Fedora 25.
3. Use flash drive to boot/install fedora 25.

Actual results: Can not select the existing "/" partition of the fedora 25/26 that is the result of the DNF upgrade.

Expected results: I want to replace the Fedora "/" partition with the installation process of Fedora 25 from the Fedora 25 bootable flash drive.

Additional info: Is there an unspecified "partition" property of the "/" partition that is not allowing the selection of the existing "/" partition? Can "/" be a LVM or must it be an EXT 3 or EXT 4 or ???

Comment 1 Fedora End Of Life 2017-11-16 19:22:10 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '25'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2017-12-12 10:43:15 UTC
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
