Description Jeremy Harris 2016-11-02 14:48:56 UTC
Description of problem:
Some features of ip-route are described as "<version>+ only" - but there's no
way described to discover what version is being run. This is a docs bug,
but there man be a utility bug needed also, if there really is no way to
discover the version.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
   The manpage footer is:
iproute2 13 Dec 2012 IP-ROUTE(8)

"ip -V" reports "ip utility, iproute2-ss160111" but it's unclear how that
relates to the values in the ip-route manpage.

How reproducible:
 100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. man ip-route
2.
3.

Actual results:
  " congctl NAME (3.20+ only)"

Comment 1 Nikola Forró 2016-11-02 15:15:59 UTC
ip-route(8) man page is part of iproute package, reassigning.

I believe those are references to Linux kernel versions. Maybe the wording could be changed to make it more clear, e.g.:

congctl NAME (since Linux 3.20)

Comment 2 Fedora End Of Life 2017-07-25 23:44:10 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 24 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 2 (two) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 24. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '24'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 24 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 3 Jeremy Harris 2017-07-26 08:21:07 UTC
Issue still present on f25.

Eg. "rttvar TIME (2.3.15+ only)".

Issue still present on f27.

Hi Jeremy,

FWIW, these hints are about kernel version. I agree though, this should be stated explicitly in there.

Cheers, Phil
