There is an openssl110 branch upstream: https://git.fawkesrobotics.org/fawkes.git/shortlog/refs/heads/thofmann/openssl110 but the patches don't apply to 0.5.0 due to other changes.
Fawkes 0.5.0 fails to build even with the openssl patch applied because it needs other fixes. There will be a new release soon, I'd suggest to wait for the new release.
