Description brosser 2016-11-09 01:33:09 UTC
Document URL: https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/html/Storage_Administration_Guide/ch-partitions.html

Section Number and Name: Chapter 12. Partitions

Describe the issue: Customer is finding conflicting information with the following statement:

"If you want to remove or resize a partition, the device on which that partition resides must not be in use. Creating a new partition on a device which is in use—while possible—is not recommended."

and this statment found in KCS article "Does RHEL 7 support online resize of disk partitions?" (https://access.redhat.com/solutions/199573):

"As to older style partitions, this feature has been added in RHEL 7 current release with a feature request(RFE has been filed to add support for online resize of disk partitions to RHEL 7 in private Red Hat Bugzilla 853105). With this feature, it's possible to resize the disk partitions online in RHEL 7."

Suggestions for improvement: Customer requesting that update be made to document acknowledging in what RHEL releases that this applies to.

Additional information: Customer is an instructor that uses this guide as a course text, and would like to have documentation updated for consistency as many of these resources are provided to students for reference. Please reference salesforce case 01729281.
