Description Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 2016-11-14 20:31:12 UTC
I'm installing Fedora like this:

$ virt-install --name Fedora25 --ram 3078 --arch x86_64 --disk size=8 --location http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/compose/branched/Fedora-25-20161109.n.0/compose/Workstation/x86_64/os/

in the installed I see (all defaults, "automatically configure my partitioning") a message as in $subject. The message doesn't seem right, if it needs 7.54G, and has 8.0G free, installation should be possible.

Confirming with:
fedora.rawhide.x86_64.2014-07-18.f22.network.boot.iso
Fedora-Workstation-netinst-x86_64-26-20170423.n.0.iso
Fedora-Workstation-netinst-x86_64-26-Alpha-1.7.iso

The default package selection said I would need an additional 300MB.

I changed the selection from Fedora Workstation to:
Basic Workstation: need extra 761M (ie. more space for less packages).
Fedora Server: need extra 761M.
Minimal Install: need extra 761M.
Fedora Custom OS: need extra 761M.

THe VM space allocated is 8GB:
512M /boot.
7G   /
512  swap
on a VM with either 4GB or 1GB ram assigned.

Begin Installation is not highlighted - so can't tell if this could work regardless of the "error" message.

Also, the disk (virtual) is yet to be partitioned, so can't see if there was some error in partitioning UI to variables holding the info.
Tried default, manual, and new partitioning UI ~blivet-gui.

Note: error message doesn't indicate which partition doesn't have enough "space".
===
I created new VM disk of 3GB and partitioned as swap, then put 512M boot and 7.5GB / on the existing disk. Now partitioning will proceed.

When I changed to KDE: not enough space in the file systems for the current software selection. An additional 2.4GB is needed.

Change to Basic Desktop: additional 2.63GB needed.
Change to Server: additional 2.64GB needed.
Change to Minimal: additional 2.64GB needed.
Change to Custom Fedora: additional 2.64GB needed.
.

It appears that the package size calculations may not be clearing previous installation type before adding the new selection ?
