Description of problem:

While trying to delete a snapshot, the live merge operation failed with "Failed to live merge, still in volume chain:"
No additional information shown in engine.log on why this failure

How reproducible:

It seems to be random in customer's environment

Steps to Reproduce:

Actual results:

In this particular case the VM wasn't able to boot becuase the LEAF volume was marked as illegal

Expected results:

Live merge operation should succeed or engine.log should show why it failed

Right now we can't test live merge on 4.0.z or 4.1 because of 2 bugs:
