VLC Media Player 2.2.4 is the most stable version of that software and, therefore, most appropriate for a truly stable version of Fedora. Fedora 24 and 25 (via rpmfusion) both link to VLC version 3.0.0, which isn't even listed by Videolan as a stable, released version. I won't attempt to list specific bugs in the VLC 3.0.0 version as I'm sure they are listed by Videolan elsewhere. But I am begging you to get this version out of the mix because it reflects poorly on the stability of the two most recent Fedora releases. I will remain on Fedora 23 (Cinnamon) as I consider it the most stable and usable release. Only the rpmfusion repo linked to F23 contains the latest stable version of VLC Media Player, which is 2.2.4. There should be a way of installing any desired version of any software. I should be able to get an older (more stable) version if I prefer and not forced into a beta release. This is the way it is with LibreOffice. That is the way it should be with VLC as well. Note: The component listed for this bug in obviously incorrect. However, it's a required field and the only way I had to document this issue.
Hi, The component is wrong, this has nothing to do with FusionForge. Please fix and remove me and Franck from Cc:. Cheers!
Yes, I noted in the comments that the component is incorrect, but there seems to be no other way to document this problem. The issue is not actually related to a bug in Fedora or Red Hat per se, but is a problem nevertheless. This issue has been raised in various forums elsewhere, but has not gotten through to Fedora decision makers. I for one consider any Fedora version to be a beta as long as it forces users into the beta version of an application such as VLC Media Player. To whom should this issue be addressed? Is there any way to communicate this problem to the Fedora powers that be?
Hi, On second thought, this bug doesn't relate to Fedora at all, since as you mentioned you installed it via rpmfusion, which is not part of Fedora. Please contact the rpmfusion team if you have issues with their packages. I'm closing this bug. Cheers!
