Description markm 2016-11-23 00:01:29 UTC
Description of problem:

Happy Fedora 25 got released, so upgraded my desktop. After upgrade background does not get repainted when moving / closing windows. Compiz effects (like fire, beam, shadow) don't get removed - basically anything what's rendered on the screen remains on the background.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

$ rpm -qa | grep compiz
compizconfig-python-0.8.12.1-3.fc25.x86_64
compiz-plugins-main-0.8.12.2-1.fc25.x86_64
compiz-plugins-experimental-0.8.12-3.fc25.x86_64
libcompizconfig-0.8.12.1-1.fc25.x86_64
compiz-plugins-extra-0.8.12.1-1.fc25.x86_64
compiz-manager-0.7.0-3.fc24.noarch
compiz-0.8.12.3-3.fc25.x86_64

$ rpm -qa | grep mate-desktop
mate-desktop-1.16.1-1.fc25.x86_64
mate-desktop-libs-1.16.1-1.fc25.x86_64

How reproducible:

Tried both nouveau (open source) and nvidia (prioprietary) drivers - same effect. Changing composition manager to mutter works around the problem, but there's no background and there are no compiz effects.

Additional info:

About to try Mate-desktop spin from the usb.

There was a change with gtk+-3.22 and compiz needs to be fixed,
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=768415
https://github.com/compiz-reloaded/compiz/issues/40
but there is a workaround. See topic
'Enable the wallpaper plugin and a 'killall caja' can be used as workaround, than the desktop icons are there and we have no redraw issue.'
