Description of problem: I'm currently running Fedora 24 (x64). I created a Fedora 25(x64) live usb via the new fedora media writer. When I try to boot from the usb selecting the first option (Start Fedora 25 live workstation) NOT (Test media and Start Fedora 25 Live workstation), the my screen goes black and stays there. My monitors are indicating that they're not getting any feedback either (the blue lights change to yellow) I waited 5 minutes and nothing happened, so I assumed something is wrong. I also checked the boot settings by pressing [e] over the Start Fedora 25 Live Workstation and they are both set to linuxefi and initrdefi I rebooted and selected the third option (Troubleshoot), which boots the old graphical option, and everything passed [Ok] and Fedora 25 did boot as expected. I'm assuming this might be an issue with Wayland failing to start related to my hardware (Motherboard, CPU, or GFX)? My specs are: Motherboard: MSI Z170A CPU: Intel Core i5‑6600K (Skylake) GFX: Nvidia GTX 970 Let me know if you need more information. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Select Start Fedora 25 Live Workstation from live usb created with Fedora Media writer. Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Black Screen Expected results: Fedora 25 Live Workstation Additional info:
This is true for all spins; as soon as X starts the system is hosed. You cannot get to any VTs. The only way to boot Fedora 25 on a GTX 970 system (and likely some other nvidia GPUs) is in Basic Graphics mode. The only way I currently know to use such a GPU in Fedora 25 or 24 is to install the nvidia drivers from rpmfusion post-install and clean up the nomodeset setting from grub. I'm attaching logs from attempting to boot Fedora 25 Workstation. I got logs from journalctl dumped to text and a nomodeset Xorg log. I am not seeing any failed boot Xorg logs for some reason, all of the /var/log/Xorg*log are the nomodeset boots. I'll be happy to try this again if someone lets me know how to get an X log in the failing scenario, or any other information.
Created attachment 1224629 [details] journalctl dump of failed and successful boots from F25 Workstation live Should contain the boots from the failed boot and a successful boot (using basic graphics)
Created attachment 1224630 [details] Xorg log of successful (nomodeset) boot from F25 Workstation
Created attachment 1224631 [details] System information for hardware fpaste --sysinfo --printonly output from Fedora 24. I can redo this in Fedora 25 if it's useful (I forgot to gather it while getting other logs) but this is just for hardware information on the system I'm using and having issues on.
I can confirm this happens with GTX 1060 too.
Perhaps this is related (?) I have an Optimus Laptop (Dell XPS 15 9550) and I'm using F26 Workstation right now and have AUTO-LOGIN enabled. Since the last two updates I cannot log into my Account using Wayland. After turning off Wayland in /etc/gdm/custom.conf I can login again. Also after turning off Auto-Login GDM with Wayland works (I guess) and I can select GNOME on Xorg (that works).

Happens for me as well on the latest Fedora 26 ISO. Both start options result in a black screen. Basic graphics mode works but limits the resolution to 800×600. NVidia GTX 970
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '25'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
