Description of problem: Motherboard: ASUS P9X79 PRO with ASMedia ASM1042 USB 3.0 chipset USB 3.0 hub : ANKER with VIA Labs, Inc. VL812 chipset 1. When I plug in a USB 3.0 flash drive into one of the ports of the 3.0 hub, the drive is not recognized at all. No messages at all in dmesg. 2. If I plug the same flash drive directly into one of the USB 3.0 ports in the back of the motherboard, the drive is recognized and mounted immediately. 3. If I plug a USB 2.0 drive into the USB 3.0 hub, the drive is recognized and mounted 4. If I plug the USB 3.0 flash drive into a USB 2.0 port (or hub) the drive is recognized and mounted 5. With the USB 3.0 drive plugged into the 3.0 hub, doing "cat /dev/bus/usb/006/003" causes the drive to be recognized and mounted. 6. If I boot Fedora with the drive plugged in, it is recognized and mounted. The USB 3.0 drive and the USB 3.0 hub work perfectly in FreeBSD and Windows on the same system. I actually have the hub for a long time now and it behaved like this from the beginning. It was even before Fedora 23. Now, I have selected udev as the component to blame, but to be honest, I have no idea if that's the cause. It could be a different issue someplace else. lsusb: Bus 002 Device 008: ID 12ba:00ff Licensed by Sony Computer Entertainment America Rocksmith Guitar Adapter Bus 002 Device 007: ID 04d9:2013 Holtek Semiconductor, Inc. As of the latest update of Fedora 25, it seems that problem is solved: Linux <pc> 4.8.14-300.fc25.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Dec 12 16:31:04 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux systemd-231-10.fc25.x86_64
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '25'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
