Description of problem: On my Fedora 25 x86_64 system Emacs 25.1 crashes very often when LaTeX-ing, using emacs-auctex, texlive-synctex etc. This was definitely not the case with the fc24 version on Fedora 24. (I am using this setting since years almost daily.) This happens under Gnome 3.22 with Xorg and with Wayland. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): emacs-25.1-2.fc25 (x86_64) emacs-auctex-11.89-3.fc24 texlive-synctex-svn40768-18.fc25.1 texlive-18.20160520.fc25 How reproducible: During a usual TeXing session it occurs at least once. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open a latex-file in Emacs, in latex-mode using emacs-auctex. 2. Trigger compiling with (pdf-) latex. 3. Repeat 2. several times, if necessary. Actual results: Emacs crashes during compilation session; not each time, but if I do it 5 or 10 times, then it happens very likely. Expected results: Emacs should not crash. Additional info: I do not know whether this bug is actually restricted to the use of auctex, synctex etc. But in this way I can trigger it very often. The following shows the output in the shell when emacs crashes. Fatal error 11: Segmentation fault Backtrace: emacs[0x50ac9c] emacs[0x4f114c] emacs[0x50945e] emacs[0x509689] emacs[0x5096ef] /lib64/libpthread.so.0(+0x115c0)[0x7f6c6c3b25c0] emacs(re_search_2+0x3a8)[0x541d38] emacs[0x536c45] emacs[0x538065] emacs[0x538257] emacs[0x565c23] emacs[0x59ad23] emacs[0x56564d] emacs[0x565a4b] emacs[0x59ad23] emacs[0x56564d] emacs[0x565a4b] emacs[0x59ad23] emacs[0x56564d] emacs[0x565a4b] emacs[0x566ec8] emacs[0x56711c] emacs[0x5643ee] emacs[0x59e7d4] emacs[0x5a03e2] emacs[0x5a6f1a] emacs[0x422f33] emacs[0x4fd3d1] emacs[0x4fdf3d] emacs[0x4ffb84] emacs[0x564362] emacs[0x4f1614] emacs[0x564303] emacs[0x4f15d0] emacs[0x4f5dd7] emacs[0x4f6128] emacs[0x419d52] /lib64/libc.so.6(__libc_start_main+0xf1)[0x7f6c6bbb7401] emacs[0x41a79a] Speicherzugriffsfehler (Speicherabzug geschrieben)
I confirm that this bug occurs repeatedly on every computer I have that runs Fedora 25 and emacs-25.1-2.fc25.x86_64 emacs-auctex-11.89-3.fc24.noarch This is a rather serious bug, please fix.
According to https://debbugs.gnu.org/cgi/bugreport.cgi?bug=24821#8, there are several patches available upstream. I will try to backport them.

Using the most recent F25 updates with GNOME Wayland, I get an identical segfault while manipulating tex files in LaTeX mode.
(In reply to Nick Judd from comment #7) > Using the most recent F25 updates with GNOME Wayland, I get an identical > segfault while manipulating tex files in LaTeX mode. To clarify, this occurs for me while merely editing tex files. No attempt to render PDFs is necessary to produce the error, and it may crash multiple times in the same session. I am unsure of the precise conditions to duplicate this error; it first occurred around the time of this bug report (late 2016), did not appear for some time, and just returned (around the time I updated to the 4.9.9 kernel).
