sosreport

Description of problem: Nov 27 08:13:18 K25 plasmashell[4459]: "KConfigIni: In file /usr/share/applications/fedora-release-notes.webapp.desktop, line 7: " "Invalid escape sequence \"\\$\"." Application menu freezes but still exists as it blocks windows beneath it.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):kf5-plasma-5.27.0-1.fc25.x86_64

How reproducible:First time I noticed this message when investigating various panel/application menu hangs.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Had Firefox, KeepassX and Konsole open.
2.Clicked the K Menu icon to launch Kate.
3.

Actual results:Favorites menu appears and freezes. Windows behind it do not receive messages through it so it does exist but is not processing any events.

Expected results:Menu would appear and continue to function.

Additional info:I had just performed a standard update that included several libreiffice packages, chrony, colord, dmidecoode, libcurl, xorg-x11-server-Xephyr, xorg-x11-server-Xorg and xorg-x11-server-common. Chuld windows of other apps appear properly.

We really need to get that hack out of fedora-release-notes.webapp.desktop , been meaning to help fix that for some time.

That said, I'm not convinced this is the cause of the freeze(s) mentioned here.

Can you test if removing 'fedora-release-notes' pkg resolves that or not?

Comment 2 LarryO 2016-11-27 16:15:01 UTC
Removing fedora-release-notes removed the error in the log but not the problem Iw as chasing down so they're probably not related.

Comment 3 LarryO 2016-12-07 12:39:44 UTC
The "freezes" are not related to this so I'm closing this ticket.

Thanks for the help.
