Description Przemek Klosowski 2016-11-30 02:53:45 UTC
Description of problem:
when Qsynth is invoked with an invalid soundfont provided on commandline, that soundfont is stored in the config file ~/.config/rncbc.org/Qsynth.conf and then subsequent qsynth runs fail.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
qsynth-0.4.1-1.fc25.x86_64

How reproducible: very

Steps to Reproduce:
1. qsynth /usr/share/sounds/speech-dispatcher/test.wav
(that wav file is from speech-dispatcher, but I think any .wav file will do)
2. dismiss the resulting error messages
3. quit Qsynth
4. start qsynth again

Actual results:
qsynth pops up with an error message complaining that test.wav is not a valid soundfont filee

Expected results:
qsynth runs, ignores incorrect soundfont file

Additional info:
Most filenames provided on qsynth command line are ignored, with an 'Unknown option' error message. It's possible to provide a .mid filename to qsynth, and it will normally play that just fine.

I think a valid .wav file must be used to trigger this bug. Qsynth probably tries to interpret that as a soundfont and fails.

Comment 1 Przemek Klosowski 2016-11-30 02:54:26 UTC
A quick workaround is to delete ~/.config/rncbc.org/Qsynth.conf

Comment 2 Orcan Ogetbil 2017-01-02 05:30:51 UTC
To me, this looks like a software bug than a packaging bug. Did/can you report this upstream?

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2017-11-16 19:20:13 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '25'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 4 Przemek Klosowski 2017-11-16 19:47:17 UTC
Still a problem in F27, qsynth-0.4.3-4.fc27.x86_64

I filed upstream:

https://sourceforge.net/p/qsynth/tickets/13/

Comment 5 Orcan Ogetbil 2018-01-06 23:34:30 UTC
We will fix this in fluidsynth. I upstreamed a patch.
