1. Proposed title of this feature request

Need automated way to provision VM using host image (ISO) on RHEV

2. What is the nature and description of the request?

The customer can not use network-based installation because of the security reasons, so they are using host-specific ISO to start the installation.

They create a VM in RHEV from satellite with "Power ON this machine" unchecked. Then download the host specific image / ISO, upload same to the RHEVM and attach same to the VM from RHEVM interface and start provisioning the system.

The customers request here is to automate the vm provisioning on RHEVM using host-based ISO image.

3. Why does the customer need this? (List the business requirements here),

Due to security concerns, the customer is unable to implement PXE booting on their network and they are not able to use image-based provisioning.

To download the host specific ISO from satellite and upload on RHEVM then deploy a machine is a hectic process for the customer when they want to deploy large number of virtual machines.

4. How would the customer like to achieve this? (List the functional requirements here)

The customer request to automate this process with steps as below:

  - On New Host page, the satellite should provide an option "Use ISO image" (or something similar), so the satellite will send request to upload host specific ISO to the compute resource and create a VM with ISO attached to it and once the vm is powered on, it will start installation/provisioning from the same ISO.

5. For each functional requirement listed, specify how Red Hat and the customer can test to confirm the requirement is successfully implemented.

  - Yes

6. Is there already an existing RFE upstream or in Red Hat Bugzilla?

  No

Thank you for your interest in Satellite 6. We have evaluated this request, and we do not expect this to be implemented in the product in the foreseeable future. We are therefore closing this out as WONTFIX. If you have any concerns about this, please feel free to contact Rich Jerrido or Bryan Kearney. Thank you.
