Description of problem: I have been using a laptop with an NVIDIA GPU with multiple displays for many years. A few months ago I noticed some issues with the nouveau driver. (I had been running into trouble with the proprietary NVIDIA drivers, so had switched back to nouveau.) I just upgraded to Fedora 25, and noticed the issue having become much more severe: Here are a few symptoms (which all hint at an issue with the nouveau driver): * As soon as I plug in the external monitors into the laptop, the display manager (SDDM) crashes. * when I boot with all monitors plugged in, I get a mangled login screen where all monitors display multiple overlayed login screens of different sizes * `dmesg` shows nouveau errors such as: [ 25.772800] nouveau 0000:02:00.0: bus: MMIO write of 00000002 FAULT at 4188ac [ IBUS ] Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. Actual results: Expected results: Additional info:
Here are some more significant log entries gathered from the start of the boot sequence (with all displays plugged in): [ 2.053569] nouveau 0000:02:00.0: NVIDIA GK107 (0e7360a2) [ 2.082121] nouveau 0000:02:00.0: bios: version 80.07.b3.00.20 [ 2.246003] nouveau 0000:02:00.0: fb: 2048 MiB GDDR5 [ 2.246138] nouveau 0000:02:00.0: bus: MMIO write of 00000002 FAULT at 4188ac [ IBUS ] [ 2.317240] nouveau 0000:02:00.0: DRM: VRAM: 2048 MiB [ 2.317241] nouveau 0000:02:00.0: DRM: GART: 1048576 MiB [ 2.317243] nouveau 0000:02:00.0: DRM: Pointer to TMDS table invalid [ 2.317246] nouveau 0000:02:00.0: DRM: DCB version 4.0 [ 2.317247] nouveau 0000:02:00.0: DRM: Pointer to flat panel table invalid [ 2.513792] nouveau 0000:02:00.0: DRM: MM: using COPY for buffer copies [ 2.513796] [drm] Initialized nouveau 1.3.1 20120801 for 0000:02:00.0 on minor 1
Here are some more symptoms (in the hopes that they may help identify the problem): * When I reboot with all displays plugged in, all displays show login screens (some even multiple overlayed ones), but none is active to mouse or keyboard input. * If I reboot with external displays unplugged, then login to start a (KDE plasma) session, and only then plug in the external displays, everything appears to be working fine at first (i.e. the computer adjusts to the multiple displays by changing resolution and distributing some windows to different displays), but after a few seconds the desktop manager crashes. While the open windows remain functional, I loose desktop menus, task bar, and all the other features associated with the desktop manager. Let me know if there is anything else I should report to help identify and fix this bug.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '25'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
