What does
    cd /var/lib/rpm
    rm __db*
    /usr/lib/rpm/rpmdb_verify Packages
say?

If errors, the fix will be to do
    cd /var/lib/rpm
    mv Packages Packages-ORIG
    /usr/lib/rpm/rpmdb_dump Packages-ORIG | \
      /usr/lib/rpm/rpmdb_load Packages
    rpm --rebuilddb -vv

Comment 2 Oscar Green 2004-11-29 16:01:37 EST
Have tried both and getting segment fault.
rpmdb_verify Packages bad command.
db_verify Packages segment faults.
am going to reinstall OS.
Comment 3 Jeff Johnson 2004-11-29 17:47:04 EST
if everything is segfaulting, reinstall is perhaps wise.

Reopen if yo have reproducer for definit problem.
