Description of problem:
if I use the graphical tool to configure te network, it fails to set 
up the default gateway properly. (so it does not set it a gateway in 
the routing table)

I have encountered this proble on numerous machines (quite different 
Oh, yes, and graphical anaconda also does not set it up correctly!
Actual results:
you cannot access the internet from a LAN, and if you are not careful 
enough when trying to fix the error, you might get very angry.

Setting the routing tables manually with route, or by the text mode 
util called 'setup' does work.

Expected results:
 I hope you would fix this annoying bug. it should not be a great 
work (I hope)

What kind of interfaces do you setup and how?
