Description Pedro Lopes 2017-07-27 09:20:03 EDT
Description of problem:

Keyboard Backlight doesn't work.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

I have a toshiba satellite SB50-15F and my OS is Fedora 26. I recently made the upgrade from previous fedora version (25) to the latest version (26).

My Keyboard Backlight doesn't work. I press fn + Z to enable the backlight but unfortunately it does not enable the light.

I've checked BIOS also and it doesn't seem to be an option.

I've searched for linux drivers for Toshiba HotKey but i didn't found anything relevant.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. find /sys/devices -iname '*keyboard*' -or -iname '*kbd*' -or -iname '*backlight*'

/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/drm/card1/card1-eDP-1/intel_backlight
/sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/TOS1900:00/kbd_function_keys
/sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/TOS1900:00/kbd_type
/sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/TOS1900:00/kbd_backlight_mode
/sys/devices/LNXSYSTM:00/LNXSYBUS:00/TOS1900:00/available_kbd_modes

2. ll /sys/devices/

3. ll /sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:02.0/drm/card1/card1-eDP-1/intel_backlight
total 0
-r--r--r--. 1 root root 4096 jul 27 13:59 actual_brightness

-rw-r--r--. 1 root root 4096 jul 27 09:25 uevent

4. fn + Z

Actual results:
By pressing fn + Z, the backlight appears on screen but the light does not turns on.

Expected results:
Turn on the keyboard backlight.

Additional info:

I have also Laptop Dell Latitude E5570 with Fedora 26 too and the keyboard backlight works by default. I didn't need to install any driver or tool.

Maybe is a limitation of Toshiba HotKey Function when working with Fedora.
