Description Frederick Koehler 2017-09-06 01:49:00 UTC
Description of problem: Alex4 loads and launches fine. But the main menu starts scrolling immediately... arrow keys do not function. If you hit enter (at the right moment), you can launch into the game... but the arrow keys do not work here either. Tried mouse, mouse buttons, numeric keypad (numlock on/off), function keys. ESC does work to exit.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
alex4-1.0-20.fc26.x86_64

How reproducible: Happens every time I launch the game.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Launch alex4.
2.Try to select a menu item.
3.Hit enter until you get lucky and enter the game. Try to move the character.

Actual results:
Main menu is not operable. Arrow indicator moves on its own (as if the up key were permanently pressed down).

Expected results:
Working menu that responds to arrow keys. Working game.

Additional info: KDE (plasma). Microsoft PS2 keyboard. Also tried generic USB keyboard...same problem. Music is cool, tho.

Hi,

Weird, I've just tested this under gnome3 using both X11 and Wayland sessions and it works fine for me.

The problem might be related to the fullscreen handling, can you try creating a ~/.alex4/alex4.ini with the following in there:

[graphics]
fullscreen = 0

And then try the game again?

Regards,

Hans

Great idea! I didn't know it read an ini file. Tried this out and the game started in a windowed mode (good), but same behavior was apparent. The arrow in the menu screen moves continuously from bottom to top. X11, KDE/Plasma. Multi-seat system (running this on seat0). Same behavior on other seats. This is only application I know of on this system that behaves this way. Other games / applications (browsers, terminal, etc) are working fine. Maelstrom comes up in the same windowed mode and plays fine. Weird indeed! Thanx for the help!

Can you try the "worminator" game? That is another game using the allegro gaming lib.

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2018-05-03 09:02:13 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 26 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 26. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '26'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 26 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2018-05-29 12:10:34 UTC
Fedora 26 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2018-05-29. Fedora 26
is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any
further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
