Hi Leslie,

could you be more specific? Is this bug about printers missing in a list or failure to install a printer?
Which application shows the issue?

Hello Marek

I can't answer your question with precision. Where do I look for cups drivers other than /usr/share/cups and /usr/share/foomatic?

The subdirectories of /usr/share/cups on Fedora27 appear identical to that of Fedora 26.

the /usr/share/foomatic is another that I am exploring to look for differences between F26 and F27. There seem to be differences.

I believe that a set of xml files are missing from the latter. Its something that I will look tomorrow AM

Related to Printer Problem
---------------------------

Broght forward from F26 -- No "Printer Test" Button. "Print test button" was present all along from Fedora core up to and including Fedora 25.

Re the heart of this report
------------------------------
The printer I am trying to attach is a Brother hl2270dw
With F25 and earlier, the interface was generic, It worked appropriately
With F26 the interface became a dumbed down specific interface.

With F27 and Gnome 3.25.9x I was able to install printer. The past week Gnome was upgraded to 3.26.

With F27 and Gnome 3.26 I get the alert message, go to vendor for driver, and then after clicking on the link and that fails, I am directed to a page where it discusses licensing or rights to use.

In the past the Brother ppd provided a hl2250dw ineterface for my hl2270dw. The two printers are equivalent, except for speed or some toner capacity.

Please compare /usr/share/foomatic suddirectories and perhaps merge the F26 into the F27 version.

Failure to install.

I diffed the /usr/share/foomatic from F26 and F27.
One file is different in comment field is thus not relevent (hl1250.xml)

With the search (magnifying glass), I see a cups pdf and another
These too, do not install.

I am testing with Gnome from

Fedora-Workstation-netinst-x86_64-27-20170920.n.0.iso

Printer is partially installed. Does not print but is visible with firefox and libreoffice software.

Back to F25 for printing.

I have just installed the beta scheduled for this coming week.
The printer issue is more complex.
My printer is a monchrome laser Brother hl2270dw.

I get no feedback that it is installed or that I am able to tweak parameters (different driver from generic. Once installed, in the system tray for printers, I saw a new entry "color". Yes, I could choose color or gray scale.

Once I chose gray scale, there was no going back. I also cannot uninstall a printer.

I fall back to Fedora 25 (which has the proper way to manage printers). I used the Fedora25 printer setup for Fedora 26 (When I posted this bug). Now we are on Fedora 27.

The Brother printer is able to signal low toner, but as long as I can print what I need, I will use the printer lights to indicate toner and paper management status.

Hi mkasik

Thank you for getting in the update. dnf updates installed the fixes today and the improvement is great.

But it is not fully repaired.

I could not test print duplex landscape.

For you info, One can use the same printer to define a copy, the main one in letter layout, the second one in landscape.

I will address the landscape test print post golive

Thank you all.
