Description François Cami 2018-02-05 11:14:26 UTC
1. Proposed title of this feature request

Provide Long-Term Storage for Prometheus via InfluxDB integration

3. What is the nature and description of the request?

Prometheus supports long-term storage via additional DBs like InfluxDB.
But AFAICT we don't provide any integration even if we ship https://access.redhat.com/containers/#/registry.connect.redhat.com/influxdata/influxdb-1x

There are ways to integrate Prometheus with InfluxDB like:
https://github.com/prometheus/prometheus/tree/master/documentation/examples/remote_storage/remote_storage_adapter

Comment 2 Paul Gier 2018-02-21 21:49:23 UTC
We're investigating some long term storage options including influx db and thanos. This would likely be for the openshift 3.10 timeframe or later, but we don't have any definite information yet.

Comment 4 Krasi 2018-04-24 07:18:51 UTC
François Cami did you have a look at https://github.com/improbable-eng/thanos ?
it is designed specifically as a long term storage.

Comment 5 François Cami 2018-04-24 07:22:01 UTC
Yes, but Thanos currently requires object storage, which is not available everywhere.

Comment 6 Krasi 2018-04-24 07:27:20 UTC
in that case the only other option is using the remote storage adapter.

Comment 7 François Cami 2018-04-24 09:03:47 UTC
Understood.

Comment 9 Krasi 2018-04-24 09:59:16 UTC
I don't think anything will change anytime soon so closing for now and will reopen when we have a better answer for that.
